Ester was born near Tiff City, Missouri on 4-5-1889 to Jennie Hutchison Sellers and James Edward Sellers. The oldest of seven children from that union. Siblings in order: John N. sellers, Robert H. Sellers, Mamie Sellers (Moffett), Grace Sellers (Evans), James Frank Sellers, Walter Sellers.she spent her early years in McDonald County, Missouri.
Her mother Jennie died giving birth to Walter 3-9-1908. Esther was 19 and with the help of relatives such as an Aunt named Cleopatra Wise (listed as living with them in 1910 census) likely helped her father care for her younger siblings. Her father married Alice L. Best Woodward; widow of George M. Woodward. She had two children, Fred and Ruth. James and Alice had 4 other children Nettie Sellers (Olson), Julie Wiline Sellers (Chaffin), Laura Sellers, Howard Sellers. She helped to raise her brother Walter Sellers, and he was listed as a foster son in her husband Leonard's obituary.
Esther married Leonard Richard Prater on 11-4-1914. They had two sons together, Robert John and Charles Leonard. They lived in southern Missouri until moving to Kansas City area in Missouri around 1940 where she lived until her death 10-31-1971. She had lived with her Granddaughter Sharon Harned (and her husband Gary Harned and baby son Jeffrey Allen) for about a year prior to her death. She was a talented seamstress and homemaker and was beloved by her family.
