Mary Kathleen Banks departed this earthly life on Friday December 16, 2011, at her home in Penn Laird, Virginia.
Mrs. Banks was born on March 28, 1937, and was the daughter of the late Mary Catherine Augustus. She was preceded in death by her mother and daughter, Donna D. Banks on May 30, 1996.
Mrs. Banks was a 1956 graduate of Lucy F. Simms High School in Harrisonburg, and then went on to serve our Country in the United States Air Force, from 1956~1958. She worked for Merck Inc., from 1977 until her retirement in 2002.
She was a faithful member of the Mt. Paran Baptist Church in Elkton, where she was the Sunday School Secretary, president of the Seniors Ministry, and also served as the president of the Choir. She loved gardening, working cross word puzzles and spending time with her family.
She leaves to mourn her homegoing a daughter, Helen Yvette Banks of Penn Laird; a son, Steven A. "Tony" Banks of Harrisonburg; a granddaughter, LaTasha Banks of Penn Laird; a grandson, Skyler Banks of Harrisonburg; a great grandson, Tyson C. Banks of Penn Laird; a brother, Donald L. Banks and wife, Carole of Holyoke, Mass.; one sister, Susan Augustus-Eaves of Elkton; two nieces, Tiffany Williams and Brittany Eaves; one great nephew and a host of other relatives and friends, and her beloved dog, Dasia.
Funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, December 21, 2011, at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton, with Rev. Michael A. Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Paran Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive family and friends on Tuesday Evening from 7~9 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home.
