Passed away on November 13, 2011. Daughter of the late Justin and Viola Griggs. Also preceded in death by her husband Bill Slyker, and by Lloyd Laughlin, father of her three sons. Survived by her dear sister Wilma McAdams and many nieces and nephews. Beloved wife of 46 years of the late Bill Slyker, who preceded her on April 12, 2011. Loving mother of Ron Laughlin of Santa Rosa, David Laughlin of Upper Lake and Dennis Laughlin and wife Robin of Red Bluff; Bill's children, Bill Jr. of Santa Rosa, Betty Hampton of Fresno, and Bob of Santa Rosa; grandmother of 18 and great-grandmother of 21. A native of Santa Rosa, age 83. She was a member and involved in the choir and Bible studies of the First Presbyterian Church, Saturday Afternoon Club, Welfare League, Santa Rosa Symphony League, Singing Christmas Tree, Memorial Hospital Candy Striper, The Hatters, YMCA and worked as a cashier for Lucky's and G&G Markets. Florence loved to travel; she also loved being involved in the community, and hosting many exchange students for Student International Service. Friends are invited to a Celebration of her life on Thursday, December 1, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 1550 Pacific Ave., Santa Rosa. Private Entombment, Santa Rosa Memorial Park. If desired, contributions may be made to her precious great-granddaughter Shelby Hester, to help pay for her medical expenses for life long treatment of Crohn's Disease, or to the Redwood Gospel Mission.
