SOMERSWORTH; Rita (Cormier) Berube 97, died peacefully on Oct. 9, 2008 at St. Ann Healthcare Center, Dover, where she had been living the past eight years.
Rita was born in Cape Bald, New Brunswick on July 18, 1911 and was the daughter of Narcisse and Roseanna (Doiron) Cormier. She grew up in Springvale, Maine, and moved to Somersworth after her marriage to Marius Berube on April 17, 1933. She worked for over 40 years as a fancy stitcher at Dover Shoe and various shoe manufacturers.
She enjoyed traveling in her younger years to many places around the world, including Iceland, Hawaii and California. She was a wonderful seamstress and knitter. Her hobbies also included crocheting. She loved being with her family.
Rita's family includes her children, Richard Berube and Robert Berube and his wife Laurette of Sanford, Maine, Roger Berube and his wife Ellen of Somersworth, Irene McClusky of Citrus Heights, Calif., and Lorraine Bedell and her husband Steve of Dover. Rita is survived by her sister, Evangeline Skoolicas of Barrington. Rita has nine grandchildren, Catherine Berube, Michael Berube, Lori Berube, Julie Berube, Jacquii Baker, Ricky Berube, Johnny Berube, Steven Craig, Ronald Craig and Nicole Rogers. Rita has 14 great-grandchildren.
Rita enjoyed her friends Toni Ferland and Yvonne Gregoire, as well as her caregivers at St. Ann's Home.
Her 10 siblings, Lionel, Clovis, Albert, Virgil, Romeo, George, Louis, Marie, Armand and Rene, predeceased her. Her son Ronald Berube predeceased her in 2008. Her husband of 50 years, Marius Berube, predeceased her in 1983.

Calling hours at Bernier Gelinas Funeral Home, 49 South St., Somersworth, will be on Tuesday Oct. 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday Oct. 15, at 11 a.m. at St. Martin Catholic Church, W. High and Maple Streets, with the Rev. Michael Taylor, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary cemetery.
