Bertha G. Briggs, 60, of 218-A W. Shirley St., Mount Union, died at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 1994, in the J. C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. She had been suffering from a serious illness.

Born May 22, 1934, at Mount Union, she was a daughter of the late Russell and Lolita F. (Parsons) Parsons. She was twice married: first, to Edgar H. Stake Jr., on October 4, 1952; then to Donald V. Briggs Jr., on April 10, 1976.

Surviving are her husband, at their home; two sons, Steven J. Stake of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Shayne J. Stake, Laurelton; and two granddaughters.

Also surviving are four brothers and sisters: Hilda B. Briggs and Mrs. Asparuk (Lena) Abrashoff, both of Mount Union; Norman O. Parsons and Charles E. Parsons, both of Mount Union R.D. 1.

Three brothers - Donald E. Parson, Cecil W. Parsons and Calvin Lee Parson - preceded her in death.

Mrs. Briggs was of the Methodist faith.

She was a member of Sons of Italy Lodge 1257, Mount Union, and the Home Association of Simpson-Hunt Post 107, American Legion, also in Mount Union.

A graduate of Mount Union High School, Class of 1952, Mrs. Briggs was employed at Bleyer Industries, Inc., in Mount Union, for the last 13 years. Prior to her employment there, she had worked at L. Greif Bros. Manufacturing and Scottie's Fashions.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 23, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. William Wollett officiating. Interment will be in Salem Cemetery, Dublin Township (Shade Gap R.D.).

Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. and Thursday from 0 a.m. until the hour of the services.
