Dr. James Worth Brantley (1910-1952), 42, died at his home in Grandin early today as the result of a heart attack.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the Melrose Cemetery with Rev. John Strickland officiating. Representatives of the Bert Hodge Post No. 45, American Legion, will present the American Flag to the family and W. Carl Davis and Son will be in charge of arrangements.
The deceased was born on Jan. 20, 1910, in Atlanta, Ga., and moved to Grandin when three years old. He graduated from Putnam High School in 1928; from the University of Florida, Gainesville in 1933 and from Tulane University in 1937. He interned at St. Luke’s Hospital, Jacksonville in 1937 and 1938 and was commissioned a First Lieutenant in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Army and served in World War II. He was retired from the Army on account of ill health and returned to Grandin and has practiced in Palatka and Grandin for the past 12 years. He was a member of the 40 and 8, Bert Hodge Post No. 45, American Legion, Palatka Lodge 1232 BPOE, Florida Medical Association, Putnam County Medical Society and the Methodist Church in New Orleans, La.
Surviving is the widow, Mrs. Pearl S. Brantley; mother, Mrs. Rosa Lee Brantley and a brother, E. Warren Brantley, all of Grandin.
