Mrs. Burks died Saturday, December 10, 2011. Born in Mitchell County, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Wiley Miles Hutchinson and Elizabeth Harrison Hutchinson Somma. She was a lifelong member of New Heights Church, formerly Colonial Heights Baptist Church.
Surviving are her daughters, Waletha Rish and Roxann Harris both of Columbia, and Janelle Steele of Prosperity; her son, Duffy Hobbs of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Wendell Rish (Karen) of Chapin, Dean Rish (Angelica) of Columbia, Michele Stanley (Michael) of Chapin, Emerson Hobbs and Ethan Hobbs both of San Antonio; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Sarah Emily, DJ, Jodi, Marie and Sam Rish, McKenzie and Mason Brady and Zach Stanley; sisters, Amelia Baker of Hudson, NY and Sammie Jo Lass (Thomas) of Chattanooga, TN. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, James L. Hobbs; her second husband, George W. Burks, Sr.; a sister, Hazel Candal; brothers, J.P. Hutchinson and Raymond Hutchinson; and granddaughter, Kimberly Hollis.
