Stewart, age 28, was born in Bussac, Charente-Maritime, France. He was the son of David E. Parrish and Dagmar Silldorff. Stewart attended elementary and junior high schools in Severna Park and was graduated from the Blue Ridge School in Dyke, Va. He was well known for his athletic activities, having played lacrosse and wrestled with the Green Hornets and held several state junior league wrestling championships. He held the Virginia State High School championships for wrestling during his years at Blue Ridge and also held several National Prep School wrestling titles.

Stewart lived in Rock Hill for the past four years and was the textbook manager for the Bookworm Bookstore there.
