Vernon Rudolph Barfield, age 81, of Homosassa, FL, peacefully went to meet his maker on Friday, December 2, 2011, at his home surrounded by his loving family, companion of 9 years, Jean Henry, and Hospice of Citrus County.
He was born April 25, 1930, in Moultrie, GA, to Rufus and Eula Catherine (James) Barfield. He came here 44 years ago from Albany, GA. Vernon enjoyed friends and fishing, he was a reputable builder and he was the owner and operator of Vernon R. Barfield Builders of Inverness, FL. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Albany, GA. Vernon was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Evelyn Barfield, Oct. 19, 2000. Surviving are his 5 children, sons Nolan R. Barfield (Kathy) of Crystal River, FL, Vernon J. Barfield (Debbie) of Columbus, GA, Robert Barfield (Bonnie) of Charleston, SC; and daughters Barbara Whitehead (Ron) and Rebecca Barfield, all of Homosassa, FL; 4 sisters, Marie Cox (Charles), Katherine Duncan (Roy), Connie Cude (Albert) and Cora Baucom (John), all of Albany, GA; 17 grandchildren; and 29 great-
grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted on Monday, December 5, 2011, at 2 p.m. at the New Hope Baptist Church in Homosassa, FL, with the Rev. Eric Justice officiating. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers those who wish may make a memorial contribution to Hospice of Citrus County at P.O. Box 641270, Beverly Hills, FL 34464. Strickland Funeral Home with Crematory assisted the family with arrangements.
