Charlotte Hope Oliver Sanders, 90, of Williamson, W.Va., died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011, at the South Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital.
She was born in East Williamson, Feb. 1, 1921, the daughter of the late E. Walker Oliver and Christine Meade Oliver.
She joined the Williamson Daily News, Dec. 23, 1943, where she was senior staff writer and an award-winning journalist.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, James Damron Sanders; and her mother-in law, Mable Sanders.
She is survived by two sons, James Walker Sanders (Nona) of Lexington and William Terry Sanders of Williamson; four grandchildren, Angela Joy Sanders of Richmond, Leif Sanders of Lexington, Trevor Sanders of Berkley, Calif., and Holly Sanders of Cincinnati, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2, in the East Williamson Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Norman officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Memory Gardens, Maher, W.Va. Arrangements are under direction of Weaver Mortuary of West Williamson.
Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, in the funeral home chapel, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, at the church.
Pallbearers are John E. Weaver, Jonathan Weaver, Dr. Steven C. Wilson, Wes Wilson and Spencer Wilson nephews, along with Jim Stogsdill. Honorary pallbearers are grandsons, Leif and Trevor Sanders, and the men of the East Williamson Baptist Church.
Floral tributes are welcomed by the family or memorial contributions may be made to the East Williamson Baptist Church, Parsonage Fund, 414 Peter Street, Williamson, WV, 25661.
