Romney - I Newton Higman, 70, of R#1, died at 8:50 AM Thursday in Bowles Nursing Home at Clark’s Hill, where he was a patient for and a half months after having been ill since April. He was a life resident of Tippecanoe County, the last 31 years on R#1. He was married in 1923 to Ruth Kirkpatrick in Wea Township, and was a retired farmer. He was in the Army in world War 1, attended the Presbyterian Church here, and was a member of F&AM Lodge 441 here and a 32nd degree Mason in the Scottish Rite. Surviving with the widow are two sons, Robert F, of R#11, Lafayette, and N Kirk of Prattville, Alabama; two daughters, Mrs Jack DeVault of R#1 and Mrs Joseph Coia of Bloomington; two sisters, Mrs Ella Garwood of Norwalk, California, and Mrs Eva Caull of R#12, Lafayette, and a brother, Francis (Dick) of Tucson, Arizona. Rev Peter H Hemstra officiating, interment in Wildcat Cemetery, east of Wea School. Seven grandchildren survive. (Lafayette Journal and Courier Newspaper, Thursday, October 8, 1964.)
