Gladys Sanders Brown, 90, of Warsaw, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, November 16, 2011. She was born January 20, 1921 near Wellfords Wharf and spent her entire life in that area near Warsaw. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Russell N. Brown; her parents, Smith and Lola Sanders; and three brothers, Norris, Talmadge and Kermit Sanders. A devoted wife and mother, she was a lifelong, active member of Cobham Park Baptist Church whose founders in 1885 included her grandparents and great-grandparents and where she faithfully served as a Sunday School teacher, chairman of the Cemetery Committee, and active member of the WMU. She was a sales clerk in Dunaway's Dept. Store, Warsaw for over 25 years and retired as a teacher's aide in the Richmond County Schools with 21 years of service. She is survived by her son, Russell G. "Rusty" Brown, and his wife Jane; three grandchildren, Emily Sanders Brown, Jason M. Brann and Jena Brann Martin; and three great-grandchildren, Tara Brann, Vincent Brann and Riley Martin; a brother, James "Jimmy" Sanders; three sisters, Josephine S. Franklin, Joyce S. Self and Lucy S. Mothershead (Stanley); sisters-in-law Marion, Edith Anne and Carolyn Sanders and Florence Brown Coates, all of Warsaw and many, many nephews, nieces and cousins.
Funeral services were held at Cobham Park Baptist Church on Sunday, November 20, 2011 at 2 p.m. with interment in the church cemetery. Pastor Donald Bowen officiated. Pallbearers were Jimmy Sanders, Stanley Mothershead, Dexter Bush, Wayne Sanders, Brad Self, Larry Franklin, Perry Hayes, Jr., Karl O'Dell, Webster Sanders, and Wainwright Sanders.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to the Cobham Park Baptist Church Cemetery Fund; c/o Jane L. Scates, P.O. Box 13, Warsaw 22572 which was Gladys' labor of love for many decades. Online condolences may be made at www.welchfuneralhomeva.com
