Gladys Blankenship Stewart, 93, of Black Mountain, passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2011.
She was born on January 13, 1918 in Mitchell County, and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of her life.
Gladys loved to cook, sew, and work in her garden. She was a member of the Eastern Star. She also was a member of Black Mountain United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Stewart was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Naomi Masters Garland; husband, Tate Blankenship; son, Bruce Blankenship; and siblings, Hattie Tipton, Doris Holiman, Ella Hall, and Arnold Garland.
Gladys is survived by her daughter, Susan Gardner and husband, Mike of Black Mountain; son, Robert L. Edwards and wife, Marie of Shelby, NC; sisters, Madge Milovitz, Irene Haynes; brother, Ray Garland; grandchildren, Matt Gardner (Monica), John Gardner (Monica), Jesse Gardner (Jessica), Ann Marie G. Hammond (Joey), Steven Edwards, Carol Edwards, and Mark Edwards; and great-grandchildren, Tate, Chesney, Maesyn, Zaida-Page, Gannon, Zaira, Slade, Sawyer, Cole, Taylor, Joshua, Sarah, and Sidney.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, October 6, 2011 at 2:00 pm, at Black Mountain United Methodist Church with Rev. Lynda Briggs and Rev. John Gardner officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Black Mountain United Methodist Church, Po Box 517, Black Mountain, NC 28711, or CarePartners Hospice, PO Box 5779, Asheville, NC 28813.
