She married Richard C. "Carl" Alt on June 18, 1961 in Lafayette and he preceded her in death on May 24, 1988. She worked at Lafayette National Bank from 1947 to 1968 and was the owner/operator of Lynn's Hallmark from 1974 to 1980.
Jean was a loyal Purdue Boilermaker fan and a John Purdue Club member. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Red Hat Society, 4-H, and Rural Youth. Her hobbies included working in the yard, flowers, cooking and trying new recipes. She also enjoyed wintering in Ft. Myers, FL, actively attending St. Michaels Lutheran Church. She was an avid collector of butterflies, and she loved to travel and see new places.
Surviving are a son, Jason Alt (wife, Kelly) of Lafayette; two sisters, Joan Vannice (husband, Lodell) of Ashville, NC and Janet Myer (husband, Jack) of Lafayette; two brothers, Daniel Crouse (wife, Tensie) of West Point and Thomas Crouse (wife, Jane) of Lafayette; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Public visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday at Hippensteel Funeral Home Funeral Service, with funeral services 10 a.m. Tuesday, at St. James Lutheran Church. Interment to follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park. The family requests memorial contributions are sent to St. James Lutheran Church. Hippensteel Funeral Home entrusted with care.
