E. S. "Tom" Merrick, 91, was born April 20, 1917 in Comanche County to R. F. Merrick and Tennie Carr Merrick. He died April 11, 2009 at the Renaissance Care Center in Gainesville.
Graveside services will be held under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll and Son Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 14 at Fairview Cemetery at 2 p.m. with Reverend Don Yeager officiating.
Merrick attended Gainesville schools through 8th grade and graduated from DeLeon High School. He attended colleges in Oklahoma and Alabama before moving to New York City in 1940. He graduated from Juilliard School of Music in 1947 with a degree in piano studies. He played in New York, Chicago and Miami. After World War II he moved to Paris, France where he lived until his retirement and returned to the United States in 1978. While living overseas he performed in France, Spain, Italy, Casablanca, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland.
He is survived by brother, Jack Merrick; sister-in-law, Ruby Merrick and several nieces and nephews.
Merrick was preceded in death by both parents, one sister and two brothers.
