Admitted Salem Presbyterian Church Aug. 22, 1885. He moved his membership to the Second Presbyterian Church, Columbia, S.C. March 23, 1895. George was a night watchman in the S.C. Census of 1900 living in a rented home in Columbia, S.C. with his wife Rebecca and 17 year-old son, Clarence. Other children listed in that census include Bratton, Geneva, Genie, and Wallace. The silver baptismal dish presently used at Salem Presbyterian Church in the sacrament of baptism was a gift of George and Rebecca Pettigrew, who suffered the loss of several children who predeceased them. Date of death is unknown at this time. His wife predeceased him and she died in June 1913.
