Ernest Lawrence Manire Jr., 92, a retired banker, passed from this life Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Mount Olivet Funeral Home, 2301 N. Sylvania Ave., Fort Worth.

Funeral service will be 11:30 a.m. Friday in Mount Olivet Chapel. Burial will be held Mount Olivet Cemetery.

E.L. was born July 7, 1914, in Roanoke, the first son of Ernest Lawrence and Zera Ballew Manire. After briefly attending what is now the University of North Texas, Ernest left school to help support his family during the Great Depression. He joined Continental National Bank of Fort Worth in 1938, and began his career as a banker which ended upon his retirement as vice chairman of Republic Bank Ridglea on Jan. 1, 1980. He was a graduate of the Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University, the Indiana University Graduate Bankers program where he was also an instructor, and Harvard University Senior Bank Officer's Seminar, where he was also an instructor and discussion leader.

Mr. Manire was a past president of the American Institute of Banking, Fort Worth Chapter, and a member of the Robert Morris Association, a professional credit organization within the banking industry. He was a past president of the Ridglea Business and Professional Association, and was instrumental in the very successful "Ridglea has Everything" campaign that helped make the Ridglea Shopping Center Fort Worth's first successful suburban shopping center. As a result of his work toward making the Ridglea commercial community a success, he was named Mr. Ridglea in 1961. He also served the community as a member of the board of directors of the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce and the Fort Worth Public Library Board.

Upon retirement from his chosen profession in 1980, he and his wife, Marie, relocated to a family farm in Navarro County which he developed under the name Hamilton Acres. He served several terms as the mayor of Mildred and also as president of the MEN Water Supply in Navarro County. He was chairman of the Navarro County Planning and Zoning Commission and was also chairman of the Richland-Chambers Creek Planning and Zoning Commission, as well as the Navarro County Tax Equalization Board, and was a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International.

He was preceded in death by his son, Larry; two sisters; and a brother.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Marie Hamilton Manire; son, John Manire, both of Fort Worth; daughters-in-law, Bobbye Manire of Bedford and Jan Manire of Fort Worth; grandsons, Kirk Manire and wife, Misty, of Atlanta, Ga., and Keith Manire of Fort Worth; and two great-grandsons.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Handley-Meadowbrook Christian Church, 6020 Meadowbrook, Fort Worth, Texas 76112.
