He was elected to 2nd Lt. on March 1, 1864. In 1917, his older sister, Mary Seal Mark, wrote that Daniel "was the youngest one of us all and a brave boy, loved by all who knew him and mother's heart nearly broke." A letter written by Sgt. Alfred Ritesman Everett of Co. E confirms Daniel's buried here along with approximately 2,200 other Confederate heroes who rest in unmarked graves.
