VIRGINIA BEACH - Daniel J. Malfitana beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away early Friday morning Oct. 28, 2011. He was born Aug. 8, 1945 in Syracuse, N.Y., to Carmella Malfitana and the late Carmen Malfitana. Dan joined the Navy at 18 and retired a master chief and will be buried with full military honors. He had many careers including real estate appraiser for the past 10 years, defense contractor, General Electric executive, office furniture store owner, fruit stand owner, restauranteur and Realtor. He is survived by his devoted wife, MaryEllen Luskin Malfitana, to whom he was married for 46 years; daughters, Lori Beckwith and husband Eugene, Michele McConnell and husband Darren and Danielle Duane and husband Jon as well as six grandchildren, several cousins and many treasured friends. He was voted "Happy-Go-Lucky" in high school and this moniker still describes him best. Dan loved traveling, telling stories and time spent with family and friends and will be terribly missed. We ask you to join us in celebrating his life. Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., 2002 Laskin Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23454. A memorial service will be held at St. John the Apostle at 1968 Sandbridge Road at 11 a.m. Wednesday Nov. 2, with burial following. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Portsmouth Naval Hospital where Dan received wonderful care during his illness over the past two years.
