William Kennedy was the son of John Francis Kennedy (1856 – 1928) and Margaret Teresa Collins (1863 – 1943). He was born and raised in Neola, Iowa, and married Helen Loretta Held on September 23, 1924 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
They had three children, two of whom are still living. Their daughter, Joan Kennedy Corippo (b. 1927) died in 1999. The family moved to California in the 1930s and settled in Santa Rosa. Mr. Kennedy worked for the Union Pacific Railroad most of his career.
