Helen L. Kennedy was the daughter of Henry Nicholas Held (1876-1960) and Lucy Laura Etta Gardner (1875-1906). She grew up in Council Bluffs, Iowa and converted to Roman Catholicism at age 18.
She married Henry Held on September 23, 1924 in Council Bluffs and they had at least three children, two of whom are still living. Joan Helen Kennedy Corrippo (b. 1927) died in 1999.
The family moved to California in the 1930s and Helen spent the majority of her life in the Santa Rosa area. She died there in 1993.
