Wichita Falls pioneer dies

Mrs. Bertie Staton, 89 an pioneer Wichita Falls resident and wife of the late Rosco Staton died Sunday in a Wichita Falls hospital.
Arrangements are under direction of Hampton-Vaughan Funeral Home.
Mrs. Staton was born January 8, 1888, in Jacksboro Texas.
Shortly after her marriage to Rosco Staton on December 13, 1905 the couple filed homestead papers on 160 acres of land in Colorado.
They moved back to Wichita Falls in 1912.
Families of the pioneer Wichitan owned land in the North Texas area since 1883. Staton, a Wichita Falls civic leader and businessman, died on August 13, 1967.
Mrs. Staton was an active member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Herman of Sarasota, Fla, a sister Mrs. Mamie Barrenter of San Angelo, Texas; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
