Susan Annie Gilliam was first married to Nelson Hutson, on July 13, 1862 in Henderson County, NC. R. H. Ballard was the J.P.
On all three marriage records, Nelson Hutson's last name is listed as either Heuston or Huston.
Nelson enlisted in the 60th Reg. North Carolina Infantry, Company F. on May 16, 1862 in Ashville, by Capt. Stevens. He died on Oct. 31, 1863. Given where the 60th was on Oct. 31st, he likely died on Missionary Ridge, Tennessee.
Susan's cousin, Sarah Kyle, married William Hutson, who also enlisted in the 60th NC Co F on the exact same day as Nelson. William died in Tennessee. William and Nelson must be cousins, but have not found the connection yet. Also in the 60th were some of Susan's Kyle cousins, John Kyle, Jr. and Franklyn Kyle.
Susan Annie Gilliam Hutson married Reuben David Ballard on Sept. 3 1866 in Henderson Co., NC.
