Our beloved mother, LaVern was born in Long Beach, Washington on March 26, 1917, to Homer McKean and Gertrude Post McKean, a daughter of one of the original pioneers of Long Beach. She was raised and educated in Long Beach and Naches, Washington. She married James Woodrow Hayes in 1934. Mr. Hayes died in 1957 and she married Cleo Brown in 1963.
LaVern was a forty-year member of the Church of the Nazarene in Naches, where she served on the board of directors for several years. Her infectious laugh and smile will be greatly missed by all.
LaVern is survived by four daughters, two step-sons, two step-daughters, 32 grand-children, 56 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers and a sister.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Woodrow Hayes; her second husband, Cleo Brown; her son, Woodrow Eugene Hayes; a step-son, John Brown; and a granddaughter, Melinda Hanson.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2002, at the Keith & Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel in Yakima. Concluding services and burial will follow at Terrace Heights Memorial Park. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Nazarene in Naches."
