LONG ACTIVE IN VETERANS AFFAIRS: John G. (Jack) Krigbaum Dies Here Unexpectedly
John G. (Jack) Krigbaum, founder and former manager of the Disabled American Veterans Salvage Shop here, died unexpectedly yesterday. He was 52 years of age. He suddenly complained of feeling ill and went to a physician's office where he collapsed and died before treatment could be offered, according to coroner Thomas F. Kilmartin's office.
Krigbaum, known to hundreds of veterans in the area, founded the salvage shop in 1937 to help furnish jobs for unemployed veterans whose health does not permit stead work.
He was manager of the shop until 1946 when he resigned. He has since been employed with Moore Oil Co. of San Jose. He was a member of American Legion Post 89 of San Jose.
Krigbaum also was known for his bowling activities and his hobbies as a collector of hatpins and unique buttons. A member of the 1949 San Jose Bowling association executive board, he was a former treasurer of the board, and secretary of the Jose Bowl 850 league. He also was a member of the Pioneer Investment team which won the State title here in May.
He leaves his widow Mrs. Lillian Krigbaum, county selective service director; a daughter, Joann, of Kansas; his mother, Mrs. Grace M. Krigbaum, Los Angeles; three sisters, Mrs. Ruth Vallee and Mrs. Alice Hughes, both of Los Angeles, and Mrs. Lorraine Rickard of Santa Barbara, and a step-daughter, Mrs. Edna Mae Cuccatto of Oxnard.
Private funeral services will be conducted tomorrow at 1 p.m. from Darling-Fischer Garden Chapel.
