Charles Franklin Evans, 71, of State Road, passed away Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009 at Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Center.
Mr. Evans was born Dec. 4, 1938 in Yadkin County to Fred and Ruth Ingool Evans.
He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church and retired from the U.S. Navy after 22 years of service as a Petty Officer First Class.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Evans was preceded in death by his grand daughter, Erika L. Evans.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Evans; his son, Erik Evans and wife, Kimberly; three sisters, Ailene Collins and husband, M.Z., Judy Adams and husband, Donald, and Sherry Steele and husband, Garry; and two grandchildren, Samantha Kay Evans and Rachel Nichole Evans.
A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, Dec. 8, at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church with the Rev. Daniel Merritt, the Rev. Stephen Jordan, and the Rev. Vernon Ball officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Elkin Healthcare for all of the compassion and care they provided Mr. Evans.
Military honors will be provided by the United States Navy as well as Yadkin VFW Post No. 10346.
