Obituary for Dr David Phillip RICHARDSON
"Oklahoman", Oklahoma City, OK, Monday, 15 JUL 1957

UNION CITY, July 14 – Dr. D. P. Richardson, 88-year-old former state banking commissioner and one of Union City's leading citizens for 63 years, died late Saturday night [13 JUL 1957] at his home here.

Dr. Richardson came to Union City from his native Missouri in 1894, and by the time he retired, a year ago, had brought more than 3,000 babies into the world. Meantime, he served this Canadian county town as postmaster, druggist, Sunday school teacher, and banker.

In 1906, the Bank of Union was nearing failure. Dr. Richardson bought it, and in the following 50 years brought it to nearly a million-dollar institution.

Held Many Posts

In that time, he was president of the state bankers association, headed the Oklahoma Banking association two years, served three years on the council of the American Banking association, and for 15 years headed the Cleveland county banking association.

During Gov. Marland's administration, he was appointed state banking commissioner, resigning as postmaster to accept the post.

Dr. Richardson was born May 4, 1869 at Alanthus [now Alanthus Grove], DeKolb [DeKalb] county, Mo., and graduated from medical school at Louisville, KY. He came to Union City shortly after receiving his degree, to visit a great-uncle, and stayed.

In addition to the Union City bank, he was also connected with the El Reno State bank and the State Bank of Meno.

Funeral Tuesday

An active member of First Methodist church, he was a 32nd degree Mason and belonged to the Shrine, IOOF, Elks club, Lions club, and El Reno chamber of commerce.

He was a charter member of the advisory board of the reconstruction finance corporation.

Funeral will be Tuesday, 9:30 a.m., at the First Methodist church under direction of Benson funeral home, El Reno.

Dr. Richardson's wife and son preceded him in death last year. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Charley Brock, Orange, Calif., and 22 nieces and nephews.
