David Arthur "Dave" Feitz Sr.
1923 - 2011
VETERAN

Dave passed away peacefully with his loving wife at his side on Friday, October 21, 2011, at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo, Utah.

Born at the family home on Monday, June 18, 1923, in La Jara, Colorado, to David Albert Feitz and Margaret Horsley Feitz. He had a full life of 88 years.

He knew the value of hard work from milking cows and helping harvest the potato crops on the family farm near Alamosa, Colorado. He graduated from Alamosa High School at age 16 and always valued learning and education. He loved finding out what made things "tick." He loved traveling and exploring the country.

He married Merriam Anna Lord on July 10, 1943 and had Larry Howard and Judith Ingrid Feitz. Merriam passed away on July 29, 1951. He married Lois Hastings on April 23, 1953 in the Salt Lake Temple and had David Arthur and Kenneth Dee Feitz.

Dave served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II and was deployed in Guam and Japan. He worked for Safeway for 20 years and then opened Maple Mountain Market in Mapleton, Utah. After selling the store, he worked as a furniture salesman for JCPenney. He retired in 1983 but continued to work in his garden and workshop, creating many fun woodworking projects. He loved to share his abilities and knowledge of gardening with others, but kept his "ancient Chinese secret."

Preceded in death by his parents, wife, Merriam; and son, Larry. Survived by his wife, Lois; daughter, Judy (Gaylan Jones); son, David (Robyn); son, Ken; 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and a cousin who was more of a brother, Leland Feitz.

Viewing will be Monday, October 24, 2011 at Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary at 495 South State Street in Orem, Utah, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be October 25, 2011 at the Orem 1st Ward at 80 South 280 East, Orem, Utah, at 11:00 a.m. A short viewing will precede the funeral service from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. Burial will be at the Orem City Cemetery with military rites provided by American Legion Post #72, Semper Fi, till we meet again.
