Mr. Mikell was born in Williston, Levy County, Florida on January 23, 1927. His parents were James William (Jim) and Lila Alene (Jerrell) Mikell, Sr.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth (Barber) Mikell; son-in-law, Mario F. Leon; brothers,Samuel Jefferson (Jeff) Mikell and J. W. Mikell, Jr; and sisters, Alberta Mikell and Bessie (Mikell) Bell.
He is survived by a daughter, Tina (Mikell) Leon, a son, James Lem Mikell, Jr. (Lu), grandchildren, Stephanie (Leon) Holifield (Jason), Leslie (Leon) Coakley (Tyler), Jessica Leon, Jamie Mikell and Toni Mikell. Greatgrandchildren Evan, Grant and Anna Holifield, Noah Leon Coakley. Also, surviving is his youngest brother, Joe Ferrell Mikell (Betty) and a sister-in-law Ellie Juanita (Coleman) Mikell, widow of J.W. Mikell, Jr.
Memorial service will be held on November 5, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at McCall's Chapel United Methodist in Hatchbend, Lafayette County, Florida.
