Victor F. Johnson son of Carl Arvid Johansson and Fia Christina Johandotter. They changed their name to Johnson after marrying. Victor joined the Army in 1917, his first hitch was in Alaska. His next hitch was spent in the Phillippine Islands, where he was a corpsman and spent all his spare time playing baseball for the Army. While playing, he was spotted by a scout for the Cincinnati Reds; and they bought him out of the Army. He was honorably discharged on February 14, 1922. Victor went to Cincinnati, Ohio where he played one season with the Reds as a pitcher. There he met Helen Balling. They fell in love and married on March 4, 1922.
Victor retired from the Reds because his pitching arm was giving him pain. He got a job with Standard Brands. Victor and Helen settled down and started a family. They had five sons, Victor, Donald, Albert, Leroy and Harold.
Years later they divorced. His second wife was Sarah Marcum. He became very ill and Sarah lovingly cared for him until his death. Sarah passed away in 2011 and is buried by his side.
