Professional Football Player. In his college career, he was an All-American halfback at Northwestern University from 1957 to 1959, and was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1990. He was the first player drafted by the Boston Patriots of the American Football League in 1960. In six seasons he gained 1,536 yards on 429 carries, caught 111 passes for 1,205 yards and scored 19 touchdowns. Following his football career, he became an executive with John Hancock. In 1985 he established the Ron Burton Training Village for underprivileged children, where they were not only physically and educationally trained but also learned the values of love, peace, patience and humility. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Korean War.
