She married Dr. James Malachi Pelot Sept. 15, 1868. He had moved to Waverly from South Carolina after the war ended. February 15, 1872, the couple moved to Brownsville, now Sweet Springs, where they built a house on Spring Street, then rebuilt it after the April 18, 1882 tornado. After the death of her husband, she used her large home on Spring Street (click on map to enlarge) to supplement income by renting rooms to travelers and boarders during Sweet Springs' railroad heyday with passenger trains delivering visitors to the town with the then famous "spring grounds."
