William Burr was one of 5 children born to Minor and Elizabeth (Burr) Gaylord of Connecticut. He lived in Otsego County for 20 years, sold his farm, moved to Lafayette, Onondaga Co., NY in 1830. After 6 years, he sold his second farm and moved to Granby. Besides farming, William was an excellent and beloved teacher. He was a devout Congregationalist and Democrat. He descends from William Gaylord, the Puritan immigrant, who sailed on the 'Mary and John' of the Winthrop Fleet in 1630 to Massachusetts Colony.
He married Harriett (Tator), dau. of Frederick I. Tator, whose parents were from Dutchess County, NY and of German descent.
William and Harriett had 7 children: Jehial Adelbert (1844-1911); Mary Francis; James Minor; Edwin Patrick; Lydia Ann, Willis Chauncy; and William Frederick.
