Funeral services for George Benton Stubbs, 85, of Gatesville, were held Saturday, March 5, 2005, at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel in Gatesville. Interment followed at Boggy Creek Cemetery, near Cranfills Gap. He died Wednesday, March 2, 2005, in a Temple nursing facility. He was born Jan. 18, 1920, in Jonesboro, to the late Emmett and Emma Stubbs. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He married Iraida Montavo in Mayaquez, Puerto Rico, on July 31, 1950. He retired from the Gatesville State School for Boys in 1979. Stubbs was preceded in death by his wife, Iraida Stubbs, on Oct. 22, 1986; and by a grandson, Michael Wayne Stubbs. He is survived by his wife, Dora Stubbs of Gatesville; son George Michael and wife Teresa Stubbs of Huntsville; sister Charlene Coker of Clifton; grandchildren William Benton (Ben) Stubbs, Miranda Stubbs, and Chelsea Stubbs; stepchildren Ann and husband Ed Swader of Gatesville, Jose and wife Laura Pena Jr. of Dallas, Victor Pena of Dallas, Martin Pena of Dallas, and Ricky and wife Beverly Pena of Gatesville; 10 step-grandchildren; and several great-step-grandchildren. Scott’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
