Bettie was also known as Granny Mac and from all reports, she was a very likable good-hearted person. She had at least two jobs outside the home; for a time she was a seamstress in a sewing room per the 1940 census record; she was also a cook in a school lunchroom. From their home Bettie, Sarah (mother-in-law), and their live-in "servant" did laundry (1910 census record).

Ed and Bettie got married on the 22nd of October in 1902, in Hot Springs, Madison County, North Carolina. At the time of Ed's death, they had been married for over 35 years. Bettie lived close to 14 years after Ed's death and never remarried.

Bettie lived for nearly 71 years on this earth, she was born on a Monday and died on a Monday.
