Was a railroad engineer and saved a train while entering the Albany rail yards. He was dying of a heart attack and was successful in stopping the train before dying.

Joseph and Mary Ann had three other children who died young, but graves could not be located for two of these young children. They were Mary Elizabeth, b. 10 Feb 1884, d. 5 Dec 1886 at Utica, NY; Arthur James Marks, b. 5 Oct 1888, d. 19 Feb 1889 at Utica, NY; and Florence Katherine Marks, b. 10 Dec 1891, d. 27 Jun 1895 buried with her parents.
