VIRGINIA BEACH - Irene Elsie Bowlen, 87, passed away July 13, 2011 in Cincinnati. Mrs. Bowlen was born and raised in Alabama, moved to the Tidewater area when she married her husband, Robert Bowlen, and after he passed away, she then moved to Cincinnati 15 years ago to be with family. She is survived by a daughter, Lynn Wagner and her husband Jimmy of Virginia Beach; three sons, Robert Smith, JR and his wife Judy of Cincinnati, Jim Smith and his wife Carole of Lanexa, Va., and Bill Bowlen of Cincinnati; one sister, Jenny Morrow and her husband Bob of Center Point, Ala.; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and good friends. A graveside service will be held Monday, July 18, at 11 a.m. in Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery in Virginia Beach. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
