Dennis Wilbert Hensley 84, of McGaheysville, passed away on Friday October 7, 2011 in Harrisonburg.

Mr. Hensley was born on December 6, 1926 in McGaheysville, and was the son of the late Thomas Lee and Fannie Dean Hensley.

Mr. Hensley worked in construction and retired after 46 years. He also was in the Army and served during WWII, and was a member of the Mt. Olivet Christian Church and the V.F.W. Gooden Brothers Post 9292. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and fishing.

On April 28, 1951 he married Rena Lam Hensley who preceded him in death on July 31, 2004.

Mr. Hensley is survived by one son, Vincent Hensley of Elkton; two daughters, Lynn H. Morris of McGaheysville and Nancy R. Mallette of Elkton; four brothers, Junior Hensley, Earl Hensley, Douglas Hensley, Winston Hensley all of Elkton; two sisters, Peggy Merica of Elkton, Carlene McAvoy of Harrisonburg; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Theodore Hensley, Donnie Hensley, and Wayne Hensley; and one sister, Marlene Moubray.

A funeral service will be held 11 am Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at the Mt. Olivet Christian Church in McGaheysville, with Pastor Wayne Wright and Pastor John Neff officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in McGaheysville, with military rites by the Gooden Brothers V.F.W. Post 9292.

The family will receive family and friends from 6 to 8 Monday evening at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Mt. Olivet Christian Church Building Fund at 38 Mt. Olivet Church Road, McGaheysville, VA 22840.
