Dorothy Yarbrough Best of Newfound Road, Leicester, NC, died Wednesday, January 13, 2010, at John F. Keever Solace Center. She was 83 years of age.
She was a native of Haywood County, and was the daughter of the late Monroe M. and Fannie Messer Yarbrough. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Earl Best and a brother, Aubrey Yarbrough. She retired from American Enka Corporation with 26 years of service and attended Zion Hill Baptist Church. Dorothy enjoyed crocheting, reading, and taking bus tours around the eastern portion of the United States. She also loved attending gospel singings with her family and friends.
She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Donnell Mehaffey of Leicester, NC, and Linda Knighten and her husband, Bernarr, of Kingsport, TN; a brother, Max Yarborough and his wife, Lola, of Canton; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2010, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Bobby Smith, Reverend Jack W. Collins, and Reverend Katherine K. Crain officiating. Burial will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at Dorothy's residence.
