Harry August Wassenaar, age 83, of Roscoe, MO, formally of El Dorado Springs, MO, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, September 26, 2011. Harry was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on August 26, 1928, to August and Josephine Wassenaar. Later on the family moved to California. Harry graduated from Excelsior High School in Norwalk, California. When asked what his plans were after high school his reply was “to retire a young man.” Harry worked as a Tool and Die Maker, a Building Contractor, and a Real Estate Investor. He accomplished his goal and retired in 23 years, 1 month, and 12 days. Dad kept very accurate records!

Harry attended and was a member of Community Church in El Dorado Springs, MO. He was a loving and giving person and helped out in some of the most surprising ways.

Two days before his death he was planning for the upcoming deer season. He loved to hunt and fish. He spent a lot of time on the river pulling out flathead and catfish. If you couldn’t find him, you could bet he was fishing.

Harry will be missed by his family and his many friends.

Preceding Harry in death were his wife Margret Ann Wassenaar; his wife Lora Alice Wassenaar; his daughter Carol Wassenaar; two sons, Harry Lee Wassenaar and David Harrelson; one grandson Harry Lee Wassenaar, Jr.; and one granddaughter Jennie Phelps.

Survivors include four sons: Bob Harrelson, Gary Harrelson, John Wassenaar and Kenny Wassenaar; six daughters: Juanita Di Russo, Christina Caplinger, Margo Wassenaar, Mary Ann Adams, Pam Reauxse, and Tina Wassenaar; one brother, Dick Wassenaar; one sister, Tina Sowers; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, September 30, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home with Rev. Brent Bland officiating. Burial followed in Benton Green Cemetery north of Roscoe, MO. Arrangements were under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home. Pallbearers were: Bob Harrelson, Kenneth Wassenaar, John Wassenaar, William Phelps, Darrel Crawford, Mike Adams, Pat Doody, and Randy Stone.
