Florence C. Cobb, 90, of Exeter Twp., went to be with the Lord on September 24, 2011 in the Kutztown Manor.
Her husband, George Curtis Cobb, Sr., passed away in 1985.
Born 3-21-1921 in Kingtree, SC, she was a daughter of the late Whittimore and Carrie Cooper Cunningham.
Florence came to Reading to live with her uncle, Samuel Cooper, and his wife, Rosa, to help with their children.
She accepted the Lord at an early age. She joined Mt. Zion Church of God in Christ at 626 Spruce St., under the guidance of Elder Frank Bryant, later James Glimp was the pastor. Along with sister Hazel Glimp, she developed the "Prayer and Bible" ministry. Florence served as an usher, choir member and a missionary. Florence loved the Lord and made sure her children attended all services that were available. Florence later joined True Faith Independent Holiness Church under the leadership of Pastor Leroy Bailey Sr. in 1991, becoming a mother of the church.
Florence first worked as a domestic raising many children beside her own. She last worked in the dietary department at the Community General Hospital, retiring in 1974.
Florence is survived by a son, Willie Cobb and his companion, Roshall, of Reading; five daughters: Bernice Bailey, wife of Pastor Leroy Bailey, of Exeter Twp., Patricia Allen of St. Petersburg, FL, Frances Sandoval of Centreville, VA, Rose Mary Cobb of Reading, and Kathryn Amaker, wife of Barry Amaker, of Reading; and a son, George Curtis Cobb, Jr. of Reading.
There are also 3 brothers: Whittimore Cunningham, Otis Cunningham and Fred Cunningham, all of Rochester, NY; 4 sisters: Eunice Reed, Blackville, SC, Melee Wilson of Queens, NY, and Thelma Becoat and Annabelle Bryant, both of Rochester, NY; 18 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Florence was predeceased by two sisters, Mae Wilson and Katherine Arline.
Services will be Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 10 a.m. in St. John's UCC, 57 St. John Road, Birdsboro, PA 19508. Interment to follow in Berks County Memorial Gardens, Fleetwood. A viewing will be Saturday 9-10 a.m. in the church.
