Brinkley Bishop was the son of William Wiley and Ascension Merritt Bishop. He married Elizabeth McMullen 17 Dec 1823. They were married in Halifax County, North Carolina. Brinkley was born in North Carolina and I expect it was in Halifax Co. or nearby, but I have not yet proven that fact. By 1850, Brinkley and Elizabeth were well established on their Carroll Co., TN, farm. They raised 12 children that I have verified. Among these were six boys and six girls. They are:
William Bishop; 1824 – 1850
Sarah Ann "Sallie" Bishop; 1826 – 1880
John Thomas Bishop; 1827 – 1904
Lucy Myhand Bishop; 1829 – 1888
Elizabeth F "Eliza" Bishop; 1832 – 1905
Joseph J Bishop; 1832 – 1869
Letitia M "Lettie" Bishop; 1834 –
Wiley Brinkley Bishop; 1836 – 1916
Mary Jane Bishop; 1837 – 1919
Ann Anna Bishop; 1841 –
George L. Bishop; 1843 – 1916
Of these children, Mary Jane, who married George Washington Bryant, was my Gx2 grandmother.
Rest peacefully my Gx3 grandfather Brinkley...
