Sheila A. Fichtel, 56, of Oswego passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2003 at her home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born March 19, 1946 in Aurora, the daughter of the late Robert and Gertrude (Bromenschenkel) Thompson.
    Sheila was a 1964 graduate of Oswego High School, a member of Holy Angels Church and was employed at The Tillers as a Director of Admissions for the past seven years.
    She is survived by her loving husband of 39 years: Richard E. Fichtel; a daughter: Kristin Fichtel; and three sons: Brian (Cynthia) Fichtel, all of Oswego; and Stephen (Helen) Fichtel and Brad (Suzanne) Fichtel, both of Texas; five grandchildren: Daniel and Alexis of Oswego and Kevin, Nathan and Hayden all of Texas; a cousin, Robert (Sharon) Wheeler of Plainfield; and an aunt, Sr. Davidica Bromenschenkel of Campbells Port, WI; three brothers-in-law; Ronald (Joyce) Fichtel of Wisconsin, Ray (Marcia) Fichtel of Warrenville and Randy Fichtel of Aurora; one sister-in-law: Mary (John) Walt of Big Rock, IL; and many special friends and a very special thank you to Mary Keller with Vitas Hospice.
    Mrs. Fichtel is preceded in death by her parents; a cousin: Richard Wheeler; her maternal grandparents Theodore and Katherine Bromenschenkel and paternal grandparents: Truman and Alice Thompson; and several aunts and uncles.
    Visitation for Mrs. Fichtel will be on Friday, February 21, 2003 from 4 to 8 p.m. with a Wake Service at 7 p.m. at the Dieterle Memorial Home. The funeral Mass will be on Saturday at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Fr. Martin C. Heinz will officiate with interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting contributions to Dreyer Community Health Fund/Cancer Garden, 1877 W. Downer Place, Aurora, IL 60506 or Vitas Hospice, 500 Holiday Plaza Dr., Matteson, IL 60443. (897-1196).
