Cody was born December 26, 1989 in Harrisonburg, and was the son of Robert S. "Stan" McCoy III and Wes & Melissa Frazier Shifflett.
Cody was a graduate of Spotswood High School, and Massanutten Vocational Technical Center. He was a Drummer with the Twirling Medallion Majorette & Drum Corp for 15 years. He played Little League Baseball, where he was an All-Star shortstop, and played Little League and Elkton Recreational League Basketball. He won first place in the Firefighting-Skills USA Championship for the State of Virginia, and second place in the National Skills USA Championship, for Firefighting in 2007. He enjoyed skateboarding, fishing, listening to music, hanging out with his friends, traveling to the beach and Pigeon Forge with his grandparents.
Besides his parents, Cody is survived by brothers, Cole McCoy, Fulks Run, Brennan Shifflett, Elkton; a sister, Kaytie McCoy, Elkton; grandparents, Gene and Carolyn Frazier, Elkton, Ray and Linda Shifflett, Shenandoah; a nephew, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Robert S. McCoy II and Ruby McCoy.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 Wednesday, September 21, 2011, at the Kyger Funeral home Chapel in Elkton, with Larry Sullivan and Rev. Gerald Meeks officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in McGaheysville.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6~8 pm, at the funeral home in Elkton. The casket will remain closed.
