Mr. Allison Rogers Griffis, 75, died Tuesday, January 12, 1999, at Putnam Community Medical Center in Palatka following an extended illness.
Born in Johnson city, N.Y., he came to Crescent City in 1987 from Mosiertown, Pa., where he was Pastor of Carmel Baptist Church for 37 years. After his move to Crescent City he became a member of the Anchor Baptist Church in Seville. In his spare time he enjoyed artwork and gardening. He was a "people person."
He was preceded in death by his parents, W. H. Allison and Bessie Stone Griffis; brother, Donald K. Griffis; and his son, John Griffis.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Alvira M. Griffis of Crescent City; son, Darrel Griffis of Bloomsburg, Pa.; daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Ricky Kline of Bloomsburg, Pa., La Vonne and David Wells of Cary, N.C., Joy Griffis of Bloomsburg, Pa., Lynette and Daniel Dunfee of Aliquippa, Pa.; sister, Barbara Griffis of East Palatka; fifteen grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, 3 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor George Whitman and Pastor Edgar Wilkinson officiating. Burial will follow services in Eden Cemetery.
