She was born on February 3, 1927, to Christina Hammond Deeren and Benjamin Stephen Deeren of Winona, Minnesota.
Mrs. Egan graduated from Winona High School and Winona Secretarial School.
She worked at the Winona Clinic until she met and married Vincent Egan of Eau Claire, Wisconsin. After his graduation from St. Mary's College, they moved to St. Paul, MN and then to Raleigh, NC, and Columbia, SC. Eventually, they moved to Sullivan's Island, raising nine children. They returned to Columbia in 1976.
Mary Ann was secretary of the board of Carolina Retail Packaging until her retirement. She was best known as a faithful and devoted Catholic wife and mother. She gave all and expected nothing in return. "We children never knew that we had less, only that we had the very best."
She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Vincent D. Egan of Columbia; daughters, Mary Jo Egan Burbage (Tom) of Columbia, Molly Egan Storick (Barry) of Fort Mill, Katherine Francis "Katy" Egan of Columbia, Bridget Thompson (Roy) of Ridgeville; Nora Egan Womack (Brett) of Columbia; sons, Kevin Egan (Zina) of Beaufort, Tim Egan (Barbara) of Rock Hill, Terry Egan (Karen) of Colorado Springs, CO, Dennis Egan (Pam) of Columbia; 27 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10 a.m., September 17, 2011, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Commendation and Final Prayers in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery.
