Nita Adine Smith, 93, of Ash, died Sunday, September 11, 2011 at her home.
Born on March 18, 1918 in Brunswick Co., she was a daughter of the late Manuel D. and Quillie Ludlum Smith. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Henry Garlie Smith on September 11, 1988; brothers, Dalton Smith, Elijah Smith, Foy Smith, James Ludlum, & Connley Milligan; sisters, Lizzie Mae Gore, Nolie Smith, Ethel Smith, & Leola Babson.
She was an avid quilt maker that enjoyed making one for all her grandchildren and gave many as wedding gifts. She will also be remembered for providing quilts for families that lost their home to a fire & to families with new born babies.
Surviving are her son, Thelbert "T.V." Smith, and wife, Joyce, of Ocean Isle Beach; two daughters, Helen Clewis, of Ash, and Avis Smith, and husband, Lennon, of Ash; brother, Dorsey Smith, and wife, Doris, of Ash; seven grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, Sept. 14th in Zion Baptist Church by the Rev. Doug Fairfax. Burial will be in the Smith Family Cemetery (Longwood Rd).
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Casketbearers will be Jerry Smith, Johnny Smith, Larry Smith, Waburn Ward, Randy Ward, & Larry Ward.
