Norman "Mick" Leo Obenhin

Norman "Mick" Leo Obenhin, 86, of Streator passed away at 10:00 A.M. Thursday September 8, 2011 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Streator.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 A.M. Tuesday at St. Michael's Church, Streator.

Visitation will from 9-11 A.M. on Tuesday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.

Cremation rites will be accorded. Full military honors will be given by members of the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492 following the services at the church.

Born May 21, 1925 in Streator he was the son of Roman and Marie (Leonard) Obenhin. He married Mary Ellen Stewart on May 29, 1948 at Immculate Conception Church. She survives in Streator.

He is also survived by a daughters, Diane (Fred) Genseke, Terri (Charles) Moore, Stacey (Jim Hallam) Danko all of Streator, Maureen (Gary) Smetzer of Hinkley, IL, Julie (Richard) Doty of Joliet and Sheila (Jon) Harber of Harlington, TX; sons, Michael (Karen) Obenhin and James (Joanne) Obenhin both of Streator; daughter in law Laurie Obenhin of Streator; 26 grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Thomas; Sons in law Jack Steele and Kenneth Masse.

He was born, raised and lived in Streator his lifetime and he attended Streator Schools.

He served his country in the Navy during World War II.

Norman retired from the post office where he worked as a mail carrier in August of 1980.

He was a former member of St. Anthony of Padua Church and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion.

Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor's choice.
