Little Rock, Pulaski Co., AR——Tuesday, 6 April 2004

 

MCRAE [White Co.]—Junior Olas Alford, 78, of McRae, died on April 5, 2004. Funeral services were held at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe, with burial in Lebanon Cemetery.

           The oldest of ten children, he was born to Elmer "Pete" Olas Alford and Maggie Mae Jackson Alford on September 19, 1925, at Des Arc [White Co.], AR. He attended the McRae Church of Christ and was a retired flooring and carpet layer. Junior was a naval veteran of World War II. He served with distinction at Iwo Jima and throughout the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the McRae Masonic Lodge and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also the retired owner of the original AK Drive-In at McRae. He and his wife built the restaurant in 1963 and ran it until 1973.

           Survivors include four daughters and their families, Patricia and Forest Blount of Garner, Phillis and Bill Wood of Searcy, Martha and Anthony and Martin of Beebe, and Jaronda and John McEuen of McRae; ten grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold and Marvin Alford of McRae; three sisters, Barbara Reed of Austin, AR, Linda Failoni of Green River, WY, and Betty Bundy of Cabot, AR.

           His wife of 57 years, Lavell Shannon Alford; his parents, Pete and Maggie Alford; and three brothers, Charles Alford, Joe Merle Alford, and Huston Alford preceded him in death.
