Daniel Lee Bailey was born 12 Jan 1919, the son of Oliver Andrew Bailey and Leona Dee (Bridges) Bailey Hawkins Garcia. His siblings were Letha Opal, Junior, and Betty Jean. D.L.'s parents divorced before 1930 and his mother married L.B. Hawkins. They lived in Robertson County, Texas.

In 1940, Daniel married Alma Ruth Jordan and they had Edgar Daniel Bailey in Cherokee Co., Texas.

On 17 Jan 1942, D.L. married Dorothy Frances McGinnis and they had 4 children: James Earnest, Daniel Lee Jr., Pamela Kay, and Sandra Denise.

D.L. served in the US Navy during World War II.

D.L. and Dorothy divorced in 1974. He lived in Houston, Harris County, Texas, during his marriage and the later years in his life. Then later, he moved to Navasota, Grimes County, Texas, before he passed away on 18 Mar 1997.

D.L. was cremated and his ashes were scattered. His military marker was placed as a footstone on his mother's grave (Leona Hawkins Garcia) in the Norwood Cemetery in Hearne, Robertson County, Texas.
